Check the Track before the journey checks you

Know whether the Track works today before setting off.

Rivers & Seas combines your Track with cruising speed, lock duration, lock opening times, and gauge or tide predictions. At a glance, see when to leave and how much bridge clearance to expect when you arrive.

A recreational boat follows a highlighted Track beneath a tidal bridge towards a lock with opening times.

One recommendation for the whole journey

Do not calculate every bridge and lock separately.

One place may work in the morning while the next only works later. Rivers & Seas considers the available conditions together and shows a departure window that suits the Track as a whole.

Reach locks in time

Your expected arrival is compared with available opening times. See whether to leave before a closing time or wait for the next opening.

Fit beneath the bridge

At gauge- or tide-dependent bridges, the water level at arrival matters. Rivers & Seas compares the remaining clearance with your stored boat height.

Combine several places

Arrival at later places already includes the duration of earlier lockages. The recommended window can therefore account for later locks and water-level-dependent bridges along the same Track.

Clear from the Track list

“Before 23:49” or “between 04:17 and 10:48”.

The combined recommendation already appears beside the Track. Open the details to see which lock or bridge determines the window and what matters there.

Plan at home and reassess underway

The calculation begins where you actually start.

When you are on or near the Track, Rivers & Seas calculates from your current position and includes the direct distance to the entry point. When planning farther away—at home, for example—the calculation begins at the Track start.

The approach to the Track entry point is a distance calculation. It is not a calculated navigable approach route.

Everything important in travel order

Waterway names, warnings, bridges, and locks in sequence.

Open the Track and set its direction. You immediately see the named waterways and whether closures, restrictions, or special care matter along the journey. The known places then follow in the order in which you will reach them.

Bridges

Available heights and widths, photographs, and—at gauge- or tide-dependent locations—the clearance for your arrival.

Locks

Available opening times, contact details, dimensions, lock duration, and the departure recommendation for arriving in time.

Notices

Available closures and restrictions appear in the context of the Track instead of requiring a separate search.

Questions about checking a Track

How do I find the best departure time for a boating Track?

Open the saved Track and choose its direction. Rivers & Seas compares expected arrival at locks and water-level-dependent bridges and shows one combined departure window.

Can Rivers & Seas account for several locks and bridges?

Yes. The combined recommendation can join the conditions at several calculable places along the same Track instead of considering only the next bridge or lock.

Does the check work while underway?

Yes. When you are on or near the Track, the calculation starts at your current position. Farther away, the Track start is used for preparation.

How does Rivers & Seas include time at locks?

Track details show cruising time and assumed lock time separately, for example “2 hr 37 min + 1 hr 20 min”. Each lock uses its stored duration, or 30 minutes when none is available. Its duration is included for every place after it, so bridge clearances and departure recommendations match the expected arrival. Unpredictable queues before a lock are not included.
