Rivers & Seas Guide

Share your favourite places – and your local knowledge

Your best anchorages, restaurants, trips ashore, and useful notes do not have to stay on your own map. Put the right bookmarks into a ready-made cruising package that friends can open directly in Rivers & Seas.

Turn your experiences into a cruising package

When friends want to visit the same cruising area after hearing your stories, you do not need to explain every anchorage, restaurant, and warning one at a time. Simply send them the places that really mattered to you.

The package is more than a list. Photos bring the memories to life, notes pass on your personal recommendations, and tags keep everything easy to find. Your friends receive the places behind your stories, ready on their own map.

Export is useful for you too. After a holiday, make one package for the whole region, keep it safe, and open it again when you return.

How to export your bookmarks

You choose which places and details go into the package. Your bookmarks in Rivers & Seas are not changed.

  1. Open Bookmarks in Rivers & Seas.
  2. Tap the circle with three dots at the top right, then choose “Export Bookmarks”.
  3. Choose “Rivers & Seas Places” or “GeoJSON”.
  4. Choose the details to include, such as names, symbols, tags, notes, and photos.
  5. Select all bookmarks or only the tags that belong in this package.
  6. Tap “Share Bookmarks” and send the file by AirDrop, Messages, WhatsApp, or email. You can also save it in Files.

The recipients open the file with Rivers & Seas, review the included places, and add them to their own map.

Use tags to assemble the right package quickly

Tags save you from selecting every place separately. For friends, you might export everything tagged #holiday2026, or perhaps only #anchorage, #restaurant, and #sightseeing.

If you select several tags, Rivers & Seas includes every bookmark carrying at least one of them. This makes it quick to create a collection for a particular trip.

You can also select bookmarks without tags, which is useful for older favourite places that you have not organised yet.

Which format should you choose?

For friends who use Rivers & Seas, “Rivers & Seas Places” is the best choice. Choose GeoJSON only when the places are needed in a different map app or program.

Rivers & Seas Places

The complete package with photos, notes, symbols, and tags. Best for sharing with other Rivers & Seas users and for your own backup.

GeoJSON

An open map format for other apps and programs. Places and selected text details are included, but GeoJSON cannot store the photos.

Share it now, keep it safe, or use it again later

Send a package straight away or save it in Files first. Your personal cruising collection remains ready even if you do not need it again for several months.

Export creates a copy. Your original bookmarks, photos, and notes remain in Rivers & Seas.

The recipient chooses which details to bring across during import. Their existing bookmarks remain in place.
